University of Montana Flute Choir (2007)
The University of Montana Flute Choir was formed by Professor Margaret Lund Schuberg in 1985, who is the Principal Flutist with the Missoula Symphony Orchestra and performs with the Montana Woodwind Ensemble. Professor Schuberg has produced a CD, The Northwest Woodwind Trio and had her performances played frequently on National Public Radio’s “Performance Today” programme.
Throughout its history, the Flute Choir performed in various cities throughout the State of Montana as well as in competitions throughout the Northwestern US. In 2010, the Flute Choir performed in Vienna, Austria (its first international performance) where it performed concerts in Palais Corbelli and with Viennese Flutist Ulricke Anton.
Prior to 2007, the Flute Choir lacked ownership of a contemporary bass flute, using a 1950s privately owned bass flute. Instead, Professor Schuberg stated the University needed an instrument which it owned and which had a stronger tone. HTSE contributed such an instrument as we agreed with Professor that the bass flute (“the foundation for any flute choir”). This effort was led by Jill Bradford, a former member of the Flute Choir.
HTSE was delighted to play a role in further strengthening the competitive strength of this Flute Choir, which also gives something back to their communities by playing in nursing homes and retirement centres.
