Shadows of Light

(Music from the Seagram Murals)

In 2008 – 2009, Tate Modern commissioned composer Jim Aitchison to respond in music to their large scale Mark Rothko exhibition. Responding to Rothko was one of the most demanding projects Jim has undertaken, and HTSE’s support, as well as support from the Tate and the PRS Music Foundation, enabled Jim to produce a 45-minute musical piece for the Rothko exhibition. It also the afforded the composer to spend time creating a new version of the music to record for the Tate website and to become part of the multimedia tour in the Rothko Room at Tate Modern as well as the possibility to work with leading musicians (countertenor Nicholas Clapton, horn player Michael Thompson, and the Kreutzer Quartet).
